Neuromodulators

What it is

Neuromodulators, also known as Botulinum toxin, is a widely used cosmetic treatment that involves injecting a prescription medicine (Botox®, Xeomin®, Daxxify®) into muscles to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and lines on the forehead and around the eyes, commonly known as crow’s feet.

Neuromodulator injections are not limited to cosmetic uses alone. They also treat various health issues such as excessive sweating, eye problems, muscle spasms, and certain nerve-related conditions.

How it works

Neuromodulators target the underlying cause of wrinkles and lines on the face, temporarily reducing their appearance and providing a smoother, more youthful look. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin that acts on the nerve signals responsible for muscle contraction. When injected into specific facial muscles, it blocks the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is essential for muscle movement. This temporary relaxation of the targeted muscles helps smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, giving the skin a refreshed appearance.

The procedure itself is quick and relatively painless. The effects of neuromodulator injections typically become noticeable within a few days, with optimal results appearing after about two weeks. The effects usually last for three to six months, at which point you may choose to undergo additional treatments to maintain the desired look.

Fillers

What it is

Fillers, also known as dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers, are cosmetic treatments that help restore volume and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines in the face. They are injectable substances that can be used to enhance certain features, correct asymmetry, and rejuvenate the overall appearance. These fillers are typically made of substances such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, or poly-L-lactic acid, which are naturally found in the body or are biocompatible.

When injected into specific areas, they add volume, plump up the skin, and stimulate collagen production, resulting in a more youthful and revitalized look. Filler treatments are highly customizable, allowing for precise sculpting and contouring to achieve desired results. They can address various concerns, including smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, augmenting lips, restoring lost volume in the cheeks, correcting hollow under-eye areas, and improving facial symmetry.

How it works

Dermal fillers are cosmetic treatments that involve injecting a gel-like substance into the skin to address aesthetic concerns. These fillers, typically containing hyaluronic acid or other biocompatible materials, restore volume, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, and enhance facial contours.

As we age, collagen and elastin production decrease, resulting in facial volume loss. Dermal fillers compensate for this by adding volume to specific areas and smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, defining cheekbones and lips, and improving skin hydration and texture with the moisture-retaining abilities of hyaluronic acid.

Some fillers offer immediate results and stimulate collagen production over time, improving skin elasticity. To learn more and determine if dermal fillers align with your goals, book a consultation for guidance from our team.

Belotero®

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler used for facial rejuvenation and enhancement. It is a prescription injection approved to temporarily smooth out and fill in moderate to severe nasolabial folds, which are folds or wrinkles extending from the nose to the mouth.

One of the key benefits of Belotero is its versatility. It can treat various facial areas, including nasolabial folds, tear troughs, fine lines of the upper lip, vertical lip lines, marionette lines, and under-eye hollows. Its unique formulation allows for precise and targeted results, ensuring a natural-looking outcome. The effects of Belotero are temporary and can last several months, depending on the individual and the treated area.

Belotero is known for its thin and delicate consistency, making it suitable for correcting fine lines and crepey skin near the eyes and lips. It can also be layered on deeper fillers such as Juvederm for added volume and contouring.

Radiesse®

Radiesse is a dermal filler used for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases between the nose and mouth). It is one of the longest-lasting dermal fillers on the market, with results lasting anywhere from 12-18 months for most patients. Radiesse is known for its immediate volumizing effect and can be used to address various concerns, including deeper wrinkles, facial augmentation, contouring the jawline, and correcting volume loss on the hands.

Unlike many other dermal fillers that are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), Radiesse is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). This unique composition provides a longer-lasting effect compared to HA fillers.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ - Are injectables safe?

Yes, when performed by a qualified healthcare professional or licensed aesthetician, injectables are generally safe. However, it is important to disclose your medical history, allergies, and any medications you are taking during your consultation to ensure suitability and minimize potential risks.

+ - Are injectable treatments painful?

Discomfort during dermal filler procedures is usually minimal. A topical numbing cream may be applied to enhance comfort before treatment. Additionally, many fillers contain lidocaine, an anesthetic, to minimize any potential discomfort.

+ - What is the recovery process like?

The recovery process for these fillers is very minimal. Patients may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects generally subside within a few days. Following post-treatment instructions provided by your healthcare professional will help optimize your recovery and results.

+ - How long do the results last?

The duration of results can vary depending on individual factors, such as metabolism and lifestyle. Fillers last close to a year, with some lasting longer based on the treatment area. Xeomin and Botox may last 3-4 months, and Daxxify 4-5 months. Regular touch-up sessions can help maintain the desired results over time.
